The Holy Guardian Angels

Feast Day: October 2

God's love for us was not satisfied with giving us His Son, Jesus, for our Redeemer, and Mary for our Advocate; He has been pleased to give us also His Angels to be our guardians: "He has given His Angels charge over thee; to keep thee in all thy ways" (Ps. 90.2). These holy spirits and princes in Heaven are always present with us, and assist us in all our actions. And on this account, out of regard for our guardian Angels, we ought carefully to refrain from every action which can displease them.

Angel of God, my guardian dear,
To whom His love commits me here;
Ever this day (or night) be at my side,
To light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.*

*Indulgence of 300 days, plenary under the usual conditions, when this invocation is recited daily during a month.

*A plenary indulgence on the usual conditions on the Feast of the holy Guardian Angels, if this invocation has been said frequently in the morning and evening throughout the preceding year.

*A plenary indulgence at the hour of death, to be gained by the faithful who have been accustomed to say this invocation frequently during life, provided that they go to confession and Communion, or, at least, make an act of contrition, invoke the holy Name of Jesus, orally, if possible, or at least mentally, and accept death with resignation from the hand of God as the just punishment for their sins.
